South San Francisco man charged in machete attack

A South San Francisco man who authorities say attacked the host of a barbecue with a machete has been charged with attempted murder.
Pedro Ramirez Garcia, 32, became enraged Sunday afternoon when the man who threw the party asked him to leave, police said.
Garcia swung a machete at the host, who suffered cuts to his hands while warding off the assault, according to police.
On Tuesday, prosecutors charged Garcia in San Mateo County Superior Court with felony counts of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and making threats.
He also faces a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest.
The trouble started about 5:45 p.m. Sunday at a home in the 400 block of Baden Avenue in South San Francisco.
Garcia was harassing women at the party, according to police.
When asked to leave, he is accused of lifting up his shirt to reveal rifle ammunition in his waistband and threatening to shoot the host.
Garcia then went next door to his house and retrieved a machete, police said.
He yelled that he was going to kill the host and swung the blade at the man's head, according to police, who said he also bit the man during the struggle.
Garcia ran from the home after guests at the party intervened and was arrested by officers responding to the scene, police said.
While in handcuffs on the way to San Mateo County jail, Garcia broke free as he was being placed in a patrol car, police said. The officer
