A 14-year-old Coachella youth has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting accident during a family deer hunting trip near Idyllwild the day after Thanksgiving, authorities have reported.
Authorities told the Riverside Press Enterprise that Isreal Delatorre was hunting with family on Little Mountain Road in the Garner Valley area when he was accidentally shot by a relative and died at the scene.
Authorities are not pursuing criminal charges, Riverside County sheriff’s Lt. Geoff Raya told the newspaper. Raya said the boy was a short distance away from the shooter, whose identity has not been released.
The shooting was blamed on the hunters and the boy not paying attention to their environment and not being aware that someone was about to fire their weapon, Raya said.
