Stuart Scott, a longtime anchor at ESPN, died Sunday morning at the age of 49
African American television presenter Stuart Scott , who created his own style in giving sports information in the " SportsCenter " program , died today at age 49 because of cancer.
ESPN , for which Scott worked since 1992, was commissioned to report the death of one of his most famous faces , born in Chicago (Illinois ) on July 19, 1965 .
Highly expressive (his most famous catchphrase was "booyah!"), Scott became famous for combining sports information with references to popular culture , especially hip hop stars , and even Lil Wayne quoted it in his song " 3 Peat " .
His death in a hospital in the area of Hartford, Connecticut ( USA), was received with regret for sports fans and television and his name was the theme of the day on Twitter for hours.
Even President Barack Obama issued a statement lamenting the loss .
" I will miss Stuart Scott. 20 years ago , Stu led us to a new way of talking about our favorite teams and the best plays of the day ," said the president.
" For most of those years , my public work and campaigns have it kept me away from my family, but wherever he went , could turn on the television and Stu and his fellow ' SportsCenter ' were there ," he added .
Upon receiving an award last July in a week that had to be operated four times in the kidney, Scott gave a moving speech in which he said . "When you die does not mean you've lost the battle against cancer Win the battle against cancer with how you live , why you live and how you live " .
Scott is survived by two daughters , Taelor and Sydni , his girlfriend , Kristin Spodobalski , their parents and siblings.
