Unlocking Alzheimer's Defense: Easy Lifestyle Adjustments to Combat the Fatal Illness

Two Alzheimer's patients are openly declaring that they have successfully fought off the fatal illness by making small but rigorous lifestyle adjustments.

In the recently released CNN documentary, "The Last Alzheimer's Patient," Cici Zerbe talks about how she feels "much better" following a plant-based diet and a commitment to regular exercise and wellbeing.

Zerbe acknowledged that she had not eaten her favorite dish, veal cutlets, in five years. She particularly attributed the "reversal" of her symptoms to diet, exercise, and meditation.

Zerbe is taking part in a research trial run by Dr. Dean Ornish that looks at the effects of a big lifestyle change on Alzheimer's disease-related early dementia and moderate cognitive impairment. The Daily Mail stated that the results will be released the following month.

Having two copies of the APOE4 gene, which is known to significantly raise the risk of Alzheimer's disease (Avengers actor Chris Hemsworth is notably afflicted), the 55-year-old had notable improvements following the lifestyle modifications.

On camera, Nicholls said to Dr. Sanjay Gupta, "I was very worried." "My sons are eight years old and three years old. As I get older, it's vitally important for me to make an effort to support them in the future.

"You can potentially push the disease backwards and give yourself more time—which is all we need until we find a cure—by making a number of lifestyle changes," he said.

Nicholls's mother died in her 70s from what was thought to be Alzheimer's, suggesting that he was greatly inspired by his family's prior experience with dementia.

"She took roughly fourteen drugs and spent the last ten years of her life just sitting and rocking in a chair. He declared, "I'd much rather have a longer health span and then just pass away."

It seemed as though the Grim Reaper was watching Simon closely. He was on a mission. Dr. Richard Isaacson, a preventive neurologist who oversaw Nicholls's case, told CNN that "he was going to kick ass and take names."

In a little more than a year, Nicholls' biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease vanished, which shocked Isaacson.

Tirzepatide, which is included in the popular drugs Mounjaro and Zepbound and which the FDA has approved for Type 2 diabetes and weight loss, respectively, was the first prescription in the regimen.

In addition to taking the medications and adhering to new dietary guidelines that included giving up sugar and highly processed foods and moving to a plant-based diet, Nicholls started a rigorous exercise program that included strength training. He used to mix walking, running, and cycling in the mornings.

Like most people in their 50s, Simon had a bit of a middle when I first met him. I looked twice at the sight of him at nine weeks. Dr. Isaacson remarked, "He was ripped even, totally buff."

"I adore taking an hour and a half long walk with a podcast every morning at sunrise. Every day, I walk 10,000 steps or more. I'm really reliable," Nicholls said. "I also work out my entire body slowly using three weights."
