NEW YORK (CNNMoney) - The iPhone 6 is not the only smartphone that bends under pressure.
The new Galaxy S6 Edge will bend to the point of being permanently
deformed when applied 45 pounds of pressure, according to a test
conducted by the insurance company SquareTrade Mobile Labs. That's the
same amount of pressure needed to bend or deform the iPhone 6 Plus
phones.
The company found that the iPhone 6 Plus can support more before the break point and could not be repaired.
The Galaxy S6 Edge will bend to the point that will stop working when you apply 67 pounds of pressure. Instead, an iPhone 6 Plus will have to apply 81 kg to completely break it and render it unusable.
A Samsung spokeswoman did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the test.
"While manufacturers use a larger screen and thinner devices, these may
be more susceptible to bend or break," said Jessica Hoffman, head of
communications SquareTrade. "The bend can be good in a yoga class but not what we expect from a mobile device."
To test the phones, SquareTrade used a robor called BendBot, created by scientists at the University of California Berkeley. BendBot simulates what happens on a phone when it is in the pocket of a person and accidentally sits.
Apple phones became embroiled in controversy last September when pictures began to emerge fully bent devices.
A video showing a man bending his iPhone 6 soon went viral, but Apple
said that of the 10 million consumers who had purchased the phone, only some had complained about this problem .
Although the new phone from Apple and Samsung are bent without
difficulty, SquareTrade found that the new HTC M9 is difficult to fold,
but very easy to break. The M9 only began to deform when they were applied 54 kilograms but also began to break at that point. The power button flew off, what made unusable.
